1. Introduction / your mission
The Baktis are on the run!! Der blaue BaktiDer gelbe BaktiDer grüne BaktiDer rote Bakti The Bakti-viruses have escaped the laboratory of Dr. Blunck and create quite a disturbance as they have settled and have hidden in several places. An old woman has observed some Baktis disappearing at a dentist's practice. Tourists have reported that they have seen a couple of strange small figures near a snack stand. Some doctors have told us of having made peculiar radiographs featuring small unknown creatures... Reports are accumulating. We don´t know much more at the moment, though! But the world isn't doomed, yet, as Dr. Blunck and the Scienide-team fortunately have an emergency drug coctail for you in store! Your mission is to neutralize the bunked Bakti-viruses with the help of the drug coctail in order to stop them from doing any more mischief!
2. In-game controls
The controls are, to give a comparison, similar to Dr. Mario. Allowing a free movement within your own playfield, having downscaled versions of your opponents' playfields on the right side of the screen at a glance, which is very important for Baktinet, in order to ensure total overview of what is happening. The selection-menu is basically controlled with the mouse in conjunction with the keyboard where user-input is required. The normal mouse-pointer will change to a syringe when hovering over Baktinet's window pieks! which will vanisch completely after about 6 seconds of not moving your mouse. Don´t be afraid! It will become visible again with mouse-movement ;-)

You will use your keyboard to control the pills in the following way:

up-arrow = turn pill (pills turn counter-clockwise).
down-arrow = speed up pill's fall (as soon as the key is released the pill will return to normal falling speed).
left-arrow = move pill to the left.

Use page-up- and page-down-key to scroll in the chat-window up- or down.

"H"-key toggles highscore-scrolling on/off in singleplayer mode.

In practice-mode you can select the level and the difficulty on the left of the window.
Changes will be activated by pressing the ready-button. To start the game just press spacebar

Baktinet chat:
Baktichat ;) For the multiplayer game you have the ability to chat with other players. Just type away as you would usually do in a chat-program. Your messages will become visible to the other players as soon as you press the Enter-/Return-key. Entered text will be displayed in yellow. The chat window will also show you who is joining the game with a dark yellow status message and who is leaving the game with a light blue status message. The buttons in the button-bar \ |?||_|¯||X| at the top right of the window are explained as follows:

|?| - Toggle music
|_| - Minimize window
|¯| - Maximize window
|X| - Exit game and close window

In order the move the window, press and hold down the mouse-button while over blank space on the button bar and then drag the window around. Similar to the mouse-pointer the button-bar will disappear after 6 seconds. Move the mouse-pointer over the upper right part of the window to unhide the button-bar again.

3. Gameplay
Your goal in every match (whether singleplayer or multiplayer mode) is to clear your playfield of all BaktisBlue BaktiYellow BaktiGreen BaktiRed Bakti! In order to achieve this you need to create vertical or horizontal lines with pills/Baktis of the same color. It will take at least 4 adjacent pills and/or Baktis for a line to be cleared from the playfield.
4. Singleplayer mode / levels
In singleplayer mode you will gain points for every cleared pill/Bakti. In addition to the normal pills there are a couple of special pills as follows:
Level 1 - Laboratory X
Level 2 - Arteriosclerosis
Level 3 - Pulpitis Akuta
Level 4 - Visceratio Obscura
In this lab, new drugs are tested on bacteria. The lab is the easiest level in which you can best acquaint yourself with the controls. As a special of this level, there are 3 bonuspills that are in an experimental stage and will help with dealing with microbial strains in vitro. In this level, the infected vasculary septum must be cleansed with surgical precision. Unfortunately, there are sclerosis particles Die Sklerose floating about, which preferably stick to the vasculary septum. To remove them is only possible with special medication: 6 equally colored pills/Baktis have to be attached to them in a horizontal or vertical fashion in order to eliminate them. Don´t we all know these terrible, irritating tooth-aches caused by aggressive caries bacteria? It´s time to visit the dentist - yuck! Try to stop the inflammation and bring the mouth´s fauna back to a more natural level. If there only weren´t the patient´s breathing and the doctor´s drill to cope with... As an agent of the Health Department, you fight the ghastly Bakti germs. Unfortunately, you neglected the warning no to taste the burger. Therefore, your senses are blurred now (esp. your sense of colour) and a race against time begins. Kill the germs as soon as possible, before you die the miserable death of food-poisoning!
H-PilleBakteriostatika Horizontala destroys, as the name already indicates, all Baktis and remains of pills that lie horizontally – all the way to the next gap. Meister-Pille Bakteriostatika destroys all Baktis and remains of pills on their way to the glass floor. V-Pille Bakteriostatika Vertikala has the same effect, only in a vertical direction ^ back to help index ^

5. Highscore list
The single-player mode features a TOP 70 High-Score, which is synchronized with the official high-score on the internet (www.bakti.net). When you score enough points in your game, you can enter your name to the list of the world´s Top 70 players, and everyone on the internet can see your high-score! Whoever enters the Top 70 High-Score list has the privilege of receiving a Baktinet-diploma! (Only 10€ incl. shipping) When you scored enough points, you can choose the name that´s going to be on the diploma and tell us your e-mail address, so that we can contact you for your order ! Framed, with your name, and autographed by every programmer from the Scienide team who participated in creating this game!
6. Connecting to a multiplayer-game
To enter a local game, you need to have an access to LAN. Click on "Find LAN Games" in the menu. It might be necessary to click on "Update" in order to update the information from the server list. Then click on a server-name to choose a game. The note behind the server-name shows you how many players are momentarily on the server and the maximum amount of players who can still enter the game. Before you click "e;Start" to start the game, you can pick a name and the speed of you internet-access. Please choose the right option, if possible, since it can be crucial for a smooth game-flow! An internet game demands internet access. To enter an internet game, click "Join Internet Game". You have to know the server´s IP- and Port-address! You can look those up in our forum or simply ask people who have opened a server. After you typed in the IP-address, you can pick a name and choose the speed of your internet-access. Please choose the right option, if possible, since it can be crucial for a smooth game-flow! Then click "Start" to enter the internet game.
7. Host a multiplayer-game
To start a new multiplayer game, you need to have access to LAN or to the internet. Click "Start" in the main menu. There, on the right-hand side, you can pick the speed of your internet access. Please choose the right option, if possible, since it can be crucial for a smooth game-flow - both for you and your co-players! Now you have the option to choose a name for your server to make it recognizable for your co-players. In the "Max Players" field you can decide how many players you want to allow to enter the game. Has a game already started, any new players who wish to enter need to wait until the game is finished. Such players appear above the playing field with their names written in gray. While they are waiting, the can already chat with other players or leave the game with the "Esc" key. You can only enter a multiplayer game as long as the server is not cramped, i.e. the maximum amount of players are already in the game, or when players leave the game.
8. Create a dedicated server
To start a dedicated multiplayer server, you need to have access to LAN or to the internet. Click "Start Dedicated Server". After that, you cannot enter a game on your computer yourself anymore, but for the other players, the game speed will usually improve. On the right-hand side, you can adjust the internet-access speed of your dedicated server. Please choose the right option, if possible, since it can be crucial for a smooth game-flow for all players and for your dedicated server! Now you can choose a name for your server to make it recognizable for your co-players.

10. Credits - Hall of Fame ;)
In 1992, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit (lazyness). These men promptly escaped a maximum security stockade to the internet underground. Today, still wanted by the press, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire...Team Scienide:

14. FAQ - Frequently Asked ..you know the word...
Question: Why is the name of the game Baktinet?
Answer: Because BAKteria are the main actors, which are to be eliminated. Sounds logical, doesn´t it?!

Question: Why is the game for free?
Answer: Why not??? So nobody needs to remove the copy-protection! ;-) - just joking! Since we originally made this game just for fun and for ourselves, it was clear from the beginning that this game will be distributed without charge. Moreover we are of the opinion that the ´Moorhuhn´ game has lost its taste by now and Tetrinet has become boring as well - even some new ideas that were brought into the game weren´t convincing... Therefore, we dedicate this game to those who like to kill some time, e.g. dull breaks during office hours.

Question: Are you really doctors? What is this masquerade all about?
Answer: Yeah right! Not really! Wrap some dressing gauze around an arm is about all we can manage and does not really qualify for a M.D. By the way: neither are we firemen! (Hi Pigpen! J As to the masquerade, since the game is all about bacteria, illnesses and various medical locations, it appeared reasonable to dress ourselves up as doctors.

Question: Why is this guy up here on the page not on the picture with all the other doctors of the game?
Answer: Because he did not participate in the game itself (except for the type-set), or better the complete HTML files with all their contents, and therefore he is shown all by himself.

Question: Who made this game?
Answer: We did it! A group called ´Scienide Digital Artwork´, an enthusiastic team of ten members who are partly from different countries, but mainly (i.e. ´the core´) come from Germany. We are, as a fan once nicely put it, ´a combination of highly talented graphic designers, programmers and musicians´. We have been more or less active for more than 10 years now, and originate from the C64- and Amiga-scene. We always preferred creating games to programming Demos, for example. In the beginning, we thought of making money with the creation and the designing of games, but almost all of us have ´normal´ jobs by now. Thus, we don´t depend on the money anymore, and don´t have enough time left anymore to do it professionally. There are, however, some few members of our team who fancy tackling or starting some commercial project in the future.

Question: Is it difficult to do something like this?
Answer: ´Difficult´ is relative when you think of how long some of us specialized in certain directions. It also takes a lot of patience, but with such funny members as in our team, developing a game always means having a great time! We had lots of fun in creating this game. This fact alone makes up to all those long hours and nerve-wrecking times we had doing it. Plus we are finally able now to become addicted to playing it ourselves! ;-)

Question: Will there be a sequel, Bactinet2?
Answer: We have not planned it yet, for we also have various other projects which need to be done. Our time for activities like this is rare. Thus, there is no way of telling you if and when there will ever be an official sequel of Baktinet, sorry!

Question: What are you going to do next?
Answer: Hard to say, since we normally have different projects running at the same time. We can never say exactly when a project will be finished. But you can/will always get information on our homepage www.scienide.de.

Question: Again a ´massively-addictive-game´, do you want to crush our economy?
Answer: I fear there´s not much left to crush anymore! But that only means that the only way is up.

Question: The game´s idea has been ´stolen´ from Dr. Mario!
Answer: Well, we wouldn´t say stolen but ´derived from´ that game´s concept. And that is officially allowed. What do you think why there are so many Tetris clones around? Moreover, we included some hilarious ideas both in the single- and in the multiple-player levels. These ideas have never before appeared in any Dr. Mario version and guarantee much fun and entertainment!

Question: Why does FAQ end here?
Answer: Because I really need some sleep now! ;-)
